The Faculty of Choreographic Art was created in 2003. as a result of the reorganization of the director's and choreographic faculty.
B.M. Kolnoguzenko, who from 2001 to 2003, was appointed dean of the faculty. headed the director's and choreographic faculty.
B. M. Kolnoguzenko is one of the most famous choreographers of Ukraine and Europe, the author of many choreographic works, educational and methodical manuals. He is an Honorary Citizen of the Kharkiv region, People's Artist of Ukraine, laureate of 19 international competitions, professor, full member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, member of the scientific and methodological commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on the development of standards of higher education, member of the Presidium of the National Choreographic Union of Ukraine and chairman of its Kharkiv Regional Branch.
The faculty includes four departments: folk choreography, modern choreography, ballroom choreography, physical culture and health. In 2018, the Department of Modern Choreography and Ballroom Choreography merged.
The faculty includes three departments:
- Department of Folk Choreography
- Department of Modern and Ballroom Choreography
- Department of Physical Culture and Health
All departments are headed by well-known specialists both in Ukraine and abroad:
- Department of Folk Choreography - K. V. Ostrovska - Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine, laureate of the international competition, associate professor;
- Department of Contemporary and Ballroom Choreography - N. N. Semenova - Candidate of Art History;
- Department of Physical Culture and Health - N. V. Tsyganovskaya - master of sports in gymnastics, judge of the highest category. Member of the Ukrainian Association of Physical Culture and Sports Rehabilitation and Physical Recreation. Member of the Polish Society of Sciences.
Among the fifty teachers and accompanists at the faculty are: People's Artist of Ukraine, Honored Artist of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine, academician, professor, associate professor, three candidates of sciences, twelve laureates of national and international competitions, three masters of sports.
The faculty has its own material and technical base: 7 dance classes, costume, music room. The educational process in professional disciplines at the Faculty of Choreographic Art is carried out not only on the basis of the academy, but also in the palaces and houses of culture of Kharkov.
The faculty provides training on a budgetary basis and under contract of highly qualified personnel in the specialty 024 Choreography in three educational programs: "Folk choreography", "Modern choreography", "Ballroom choreography" of the first bachelor's level, and in the educational program "Choreography" of the second master's level.
Students study in two forms: full-time and part-time. 3 years 10 months for the Bachelor of Choreography degree and 1 year 4 months for the Master of Choreography degree.
A significant contribution to the formation of future professional choreographers is the participation of students in the creative teams of the faculty: the Zavit folk dance theater, the ESTET modern dance ensemble, and the Creative ballroom dance ensemble.
The Faculty of Choreographic Art and its departments together with the efforts of all teachers create conditions for raising the level and authority of Ukrainian modern national culture and directly shape its future. The faculty is a real creative, scientific, methodological, cultural and educational center of Ukraine, which at a high professional level solves the task of developing art at the present stage.
During their studies, students gain fundamental knowledge, skills and abilities in all types of choreographic art. They have the opportunity to show and develop performing, choreography, organizational and pedagogical abilities. The best students present the achievements of their departments on the stages of many cities of Ukraine. Participate and win in international, all-Ukrainian and regional festivals-dance competitions.
Among the creative teams of the faculty:
- Folk Dance Theater "Testament" (Artistic director and choreographer - B. M. Kolnoguzenko, choreographer-tutor - K. V. Ostrovskaya)
- Ensemble of modern dance "ESTET" (Artistic director and chief choreographer - E. V. Yanina-Ledovskaya, choreographer-tutor E. S. Samoilova)
- Creative Ballroom Dance "Ensemble" (Artistic directors - V. I. Melikhov, I. V. Zhuk)
The main strategic goals of the concept of development of the faculty are the enrichment of choreographic education, the creation of continuous two-stage training of bachelors and masters for different types and types of institutions in Ukraine, the establishment of international relations with leading educational institutions of the choreographic profile of Europe, China, Canada.
The basis of the renewal of choreographic education at the faculty is the modernization of the content and structure of educational and professional programs, new curricula, educational and qualification characteristics of the bachelor and master, improvement of the organization of the educational process, methods of teaching disciplines, the development of program and methodological documentation, the preparation of textbooks, textbooks in printed and electronic form.
Perspective goals, tasks and directions of training of choreography specialists are based on the national tradition, more than 25 years of experience in training choreographers, teachers, artists in KhSAC and standards of higher education in Ukraine.
The need to increase the prestige and competitiveness of the choreographic profession requires revision and clarification of the basic knowledge, skills, skills that the choreographer should possess. Much attention is paid to his personal qualities, the disclosure and development of creative potential.
In modern conditions, the choreographer of the highest qualification, regardless of specialization, has increased requirements. He must have the necessary level of performing skills, have knowledge of the main choreographic disciplines (the art of the choreographer, classical dance, folk-stage dance, modern dance, ballroom dance, historical ballroom dance, methods of working with the choreographic team), show awareness in the field of the history of choreographic art, operate with professional terminology and have experience in choreography and pedagogical work.
The Faculty of Choreographic Art and its departments, through the joint efforts of all teachers, create conditions for raising the level and authority of Ukrainian modern national culture and art, directly shaping their future.
Now the faculty is a real scientific, methodological, cultural and educational center of Ukraine, which at a high professional level solves the tasks of creative development of art at the present stage. The concept of development of the faculty is focused on expanding the professional sphere of training and use of graduates and is aimed at its functioning as one of the leading departments of the choreographic profile in Ukraine and the world.
