Anti-Trafficking Week at Kharkiv State Academy of Culture

On October 18, 2007, the European Parliament launched the European Day against Trafficking in Persons as a day of consolidation of activities to raise awareness of the phenomenon of trafficking in persons, especially women and children, public indifference to this phenomenon and visualization of the problem at the global level. October 14-18, 2024 the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture hosted the "Week of Combating Human Trafficking".
The following events were held during the week:
1. Teachers of the Academy took courses on combating human trafficking.
• "Combating human trafficking: MOM", International Organization for Migration
• "Combating human trafficking in Ukraine. The Impact of War", La Strada-Ukraine
• "Combating human trafficking", a distance learning platform of the BPD system
2. Students and teachers passed the quest "Safe Employment", created with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with funding from the Government of Japan and the online game "Something Went Wrong", created as part of the Program for the Protection of the Representation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ukraine with funding from the US Department of State.
3. October 18, 2024 A round table "Problems of Combating Human Trafficking in Ukraine" was held, at which: Karina Popova-Koryak, Assistant Vice-Rector for Educational Work, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Teleporter Skills, Candidate of Legal Sciences, made a report "Legal Aspects of Combating Human Trafficking". The speaker informed the participants of the round table about the scale of human trafficking, described human trafficking as one of the most serious crimes, demonstrated the statistics of crimes in Ukraine related to human trafficking, and described the main causes of human trafficking. Karina Alekseevna invited the participants of the round table to pass a small test aimed at debunking common myths related to the problem of human trafficking, described the ways of involvement in the situation of human trafficking and the main forms of trafficking, and also reported on the risk groups of people who are at the highest risk of suffering from this crime. Nanuli Potemkina, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies and Social Communications, Lecturer of the Department of Pedagogy and Philology, Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work, made a presentation "Socio-psychological consequences for victims of human trafficking". Nanuli Zurabovna noted that the most common form of the consequences of being in a situation of human trafficking is post-traumatic stress disorder, the characteristic manifestations of which may be: memory lapses, attempts to avoid everything that at least indirectly recalls traumatic events, or, conversely, a constant return to the past, mental instability, attacks of aggression, emotional devastation, detachment from the environment, communicative isolation, etc. The speaker stressed that post-traumatic stress disorder is often accompanied by other disorders - anxiety neuroses, depression, suicidal tendencies, alcohol and drug addictions, psychosomatic diseases (for example, cardiovascular, sleep disorders, etc.). In addition, Nanuli Zurabovna invited the roundtable participants to consider practical cases related to human trafficking and possible models of safe behavior.
Maksym Piddubnyi, a member of the Student Council, a 4th year student of the Faculty of Audiovisual Art, actualized the problem of human trafficking through an appeal to audiovisual art and made a presentation "The problem of human trafficking in the film industry. Top-5 films about human trafficking". Maxim offered the participants of the round table top 5 feature films about human trafficking based on real events: 1. "Whistleblower", Canada/USA/Germany, 2010. 2. Eden, USA, 2012. 3. Sold, United States, 2014. 4. "Not My Life Film", USA, 2011. 5. "Uncut jewels" ("Trade of Innocents"), USA, 2010.
Human trafficking can take many different shameful forms. One of which is labor slavery - a gross violation of human rights and the rights of the employee. Freedom from forced labor is one of the fundamental labor rights that labor inspectors encourage and protect. When you need money to provide for yourself and your family. When you are looking for a reliable job for a stable income. When you need shelter, a safe place to stay or better living conditions... Among those who offer what they want, there may be scammers. IOM estimates that more than 32 million people have been affected by a full-scale war. Faced with the impact of hostilities, displacement and weakening of the economy, the population became more prone to getting into a situation of human trafficking, exploitation or violence.

The academic community of KhSAC took part in the
writing of the Radio Dictator of National Unity - 2023

October 27, 2023 a friendly team of the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture came together (in online and offline formats) to celebrate the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. Many applicants, teachers and staff of the Academy, headed by rector Natalia Ryabukha, joined the traditional flash mob of autumn - the annual Radio Dictator of National Unity - 2023.
Before the direct writing of the radio dictator, the participants of the all-Ukrainian action of unity had the opportunity to plunge into the unique poetic and song world of the Ukrainian language - the language of unity, victory, the language of freedom, freedom and, of course, the language of our heroes-warriors, which we are proud of! This solemn part of the event was moderated by the language ombudsman of KhSAC, associate professor of the Department of Psychology, Pedagogy and Philology Irina Fesenko.
It is very good that this tradition - writing the Radio Dictator of National Unity - is alive and relevant within the walls of the KhSAC, because the All-Ukrainian language flash mob is not only a test of the knowledge of applicants, teachers and staff of the academy, but above all a means of unity around the language - the main spiritual treasure of our country.
